Educational Approach

Elementary School:

Grades K - 6

  • Core Knowledge Curriculum
  • Classical instructional philosophy is expected for these students in the grammar stage
  • Joy of learning is evident in children and must be maintained with high academic expectations
  • Capturing Kids’ Hearts training and implementation is required for all teachers
  • Math and Reading will be skill grouped within each grade level
  • Skill Groups are flexible and can change based on data
  • Staff will model, teach, and integrate character education
  • Core Virtues, by Mary Beth Klee, for literature-based language arts tied to character development
  • Writing emphasis is in the Non-Fiction areas of Science, History, and Geography
  • Shurley Grammar for students K-3
  • NWEA Measures of Academic Progress testing 2-3 times per year to track student academic growth
  • Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and History are daily subjects
  • Students have one Specials class per day: the rotation includes Computer, Art, Music, and Physical Education
