Educational Approach

Junior High School:

Grades 7 - 8

  • Core Knowledge Curriculum
  • Classical instructional philosophy is expected for these students in the logic stage
  • Joy of learning is evident in students and must be maintained with high academic expectations
  • Capturing Kids’ Hearts training and implementation is required for all teachers
  • Staff will model, teach, and integrate character education
  • Writing emphasis is in the Non-Fiction areas of Science, History, and Geography
  • NWEA Measures of Academic Progress testing 2-3 times per year to track student academic growth
  • English, Math, Science, and History are daily subjects
  • Physical Education will be taught in separate gender classes that meet 2-3 times per week
  • Computer Skills will meet 2-3 times per week
  • Fine Arts will be part of each day, with student choosing from Art, Band, Choir, and possibly Drama
  • Athletic Program will begin in Junior High, offering: soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, and track for girls and boys
  • Retention within a grade or repetition of a course is required when students fail to complete coursework
